Uzbekistan

Never heard of the place!

There were five guest arrived in the hotel. As I reconfirm their stay with the hotel I felt that the guest couldn’t understand what I am talking about and just gave me a peculiar look but I still continued as I asked him to sign the registration card. I heard them talking in foreign language so I concluded that they don’t speak or understand English! When they gave their passport to verify their identity and as part of the hotel’s check-in procedure, I read the country: Uzbekistan. Then my geography runs but I really haven’t heard about such kind of place exist in the globe. (I’m sorry)

As always been a curious Karen—I always ask when I don’t know things but this time I have no way to ask the man in front of me because he will never understand. It was a busy moment at the front desk even if we have 5 computer terminals open. There were lines in each but already starting to fade out when another guy from the Uzbekistan group stood in front of me. I was mesmerized when I saw him! He was a real good looking guy who’s 27 years old (Info from his passport). He looks so innocent and smells so good too! He wears a trouser suit just like the one wears by Brad Pitt or Armani type thing that looks really well on him. He has this appealing look of a mafia like someone from the movie Ocean's Eleven/Twelve thing. Then I assumed that just like the rest from Uzbekistan, he too couldn’t speak English. As I still tried to reconfirm his stay I heard him says, “Yeah! It’s correct!” So it enlightened me to know that he can speak English! As I update his profile from the system, I found out that he is the Interpreter for the other guest of Asian Development Bank! Goodness gracious isn’t it?! While he was doing the registration I asked with grin, “Sir I hope you don’t mind me asking where Uzbekistan is?” He gave me a smile and he was so charming that made me sigh! It so happen that the room pre-blocked for him is not yet available so he has to wait a little longer because I am still looking for an available room. (It’s unintentional promise!)

He looks so occupied and so tired because of the people with him..just to share!

Then he answered my question, “It’s the former Uzbek Soviet Socialist Republic located in the north of Afghanistan.” The first thing came to my thought is Bin Laden! How on earth this angelic face lives in the place close to Afghanistan where terrorism is present! I mean, again it came to me how big the world is that I never thought of such place! I mean, I’ve been in a hotel for years but it is really indeed my first encounter with someone from this so called Uzbekistan! Atleast it's good to know places around the world.

Well, as he leaves the desk I again made a deep sigh as I know it will just be just one guest and one front desk officer encounter. The only thing for me to hope now is that may he have a pleasant stay!
